City of Mosaics
Madaba is known as the City of Mosaics and was mentioned in the Bible at the time of Exodus 1200BC. In Madaba, you will be visiting the St. George Church famed for its 6th century Byzantine mosaic map, featuring ‘The Map of the Holy Land While in Madaba, take a stroll thru the shops and view the handmade Mosaics.
Next journey north to Mt. Nebo, the place where Moses viewed the Holy land of Canaan and is believed to be buried. Mt. Nebo’s church was built in the late 4th century and is considered to be the holiest site in Jordan and a place of pilgrimage for early Christians. The Serpentine Cross which stands just outside the sanctuary is symbolic of the brass serpent taken by Moses into the desert and the cross upon which Jesus was crucified.
